4th of July Art Walk
Come get an early start to your 4th of July activities on the square! Neither rain, snow or national holiday stops 1st Fridays Art Walk! Fairfield's own "The Suits" will be our gazebo band, with music starting at 6:00 pm and running through until Fireworks time, about 9:30 pm. Galleries and selected merchants will be open. There are two contests for all ages: Best Patriotic Costume and an Apple Pie Contest. Numerous art and craft vendors will be visiting us from all over the Midwest. The kids will enjoy free children's activities including our Giant Kids Canvas, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and a special craft activity. Lots of pre-fireworks fun for everyone!
August pARTy in the Park
The pARTy continues! In addition to a“gazebo band,” numerous art and craft vendors will be visiting us from all over the Midwest. The kids will enjoy free children's activities including our Giant Kids’ Canvas, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and a special craft activity.
The 1st Fridays Art Walk galleries and art venues will be full to bursting with new and returning exhibits. Our charming and eclectic shops will be open too! Come early and stay late. This 1st Fridays Art Walk is a pARTy you won't want to miss!
September Buy Fresh Buy Local
Celebrate the art of abundant living at Fairfield’s 1st Fridays Art Walk, All Things Local, on the Square, Friday, September 5, from 6 -10 PM. Enjoy local food, live music, art, and family fun at this very special enhanced art walk co-sponsored by our friends at Fairfield Buy Fresh Buy Local. Lots to do and see, both on Central Park lawn and in our galleries and venues!
Second Annual Oktoberfest
Come enjoy 1st Fridays Art Walk’s take on this traditional fall event celebrating the traditions of Iowa’s German ancestors, focusing on music, food, quilts and fiber arts. Co-sponsor Iowa State Bank and Trust Company will have a plethora of entertaining German-themed activities planned for the Fairfield Square and at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center. Our galleries will be brimming with new and returning exhibits of art.
November Religious Art and Stained Glass
Featuring stained glass and all forms of art glass, including lampwicking, blown glass, and glass jewelry and arts. Demonstrations and exhibits in multiple venues around the square.
December Gingerbread Extravaganza
Our 5th Annual Gingerbread Extravaganza features Iowa’s largest display of professional and amateur gingerbread creations is all shapes and sizes displayed in gallery and merchant windows. Lots more holiday fun with exhibits, music, food, artisan demonstrations, a free Children’s Gingerbread Workshop.
January Winter Song
Begin 2009 with a song in your heart by enjoying delightful vocal performances by some of Fairfield's favorite songsters in several venues around the Square. The annual Winter’s Song features a plethora of choral, duo, trio, and solo music from all corners of the community, including both professional and amateur songsters.
February Film and Video Festival
The Best of Iowa Film Expo is co-sponsored by the Iowa Motion Picture Association, the Iowa Cinema Events Coalition, and participating Iowa Film festivals. Three days of Iowa-connected, awarding-winning Feature, Documentary, Short, Student, and Animation films from over 5 of the Iowa film festivals in multiple professional and cozy venues around Fairfield's historic town square. Films, workshops, speakers and more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. Our 5th year of fabulous film fun! Visit here for more details coming soon!
March Dance: Art in Motion
Here’s your opportunity to watch and learn numerous forms of traditional dance: Irish step, ballet, English country, Indian Kathak, Isadora Duncan and country square dancing among others. Come and move to shake off the winter blahs at our Third Annual Dance Gala.
April Heritage Art: Doll & Collectibles
Featuring historical art forms with guided tours of the Carnegie Museum conducted by the Jefferson County Historical Society. Come see Iowa’s second largest Native American pottery collection and much more, all within a block of the square. Co-sponsored by Jacob’s Ladder Antique Mall and other Fairfield antiques dealers.
